Hi:
My name is Tom, While I am on Dialysis and in need of a kidney, the organ is not what I'm asking for. I have faith in the system that the right organ will be found through the donor system for me. If you are not a donor, please consider signing up for it and telling your family about your decision. One person who is a donor can change so many lives.
Now my problem is one that will eventually face every organ recipient at some time. There is a crushing cost of medicines that I must be able to pay for if I am to keep the transplanted kidney alive. The immunosuppressants and other medicines can cost anywhere from $2500 a month and upwards.
There is little governmental help, but it runs out quickly. Private insurance is difficult, if not impossible to pick up, except through an employer, and that still leaves a large co-payment. Some drug companies will help, but that is only after the government has stepped aside and medical bills are already piling up.
So if anyne has ideas on how to offset the costs of the medicines, either through a gifting program or a third party charity (as to not interfere with my government subsidies until after the transplant and I get a job) please let me know.
